Apple’s New AirTag Delivers Massive Range and Volume Boosts

Apple Airtag

Apple just gave us a surprise update to its fan-favorite tracking accessory. While it looks identical to the original, the internal hardware has been completely overhauled to solve the two biggest complaints: range and volume.

Whether you’re hunting for keys in the couch or tracking luggage across an airport, this “stealth” upgrade makes a world of difference. Here is everything you need to know about the new AirTag (2nd Gen).

Power Up: Finding Items from Farther Away

The new AirTag is packed with Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip the same tech found in the iPhone 17 and Apple Watch Ultra 3.

  • 50% More Range: You can now use “Precision Finding” (the arrows that point you to your item) from much further away.
  • 60-Meter Reach: On supported devices like the iPhone 15 and 17, your range for finding items is now nearly 200 feet (60 meters).
  • Upgraded Bluetooth: Even without the fancy arrows, the basic Bluetooth signal is stronger, making it easier for your phone to “hear” the tag in the background.

🔊 Volume Up: A Much Louder Chirp

If you’ve ever struggled to hear your AirTag muffled under a pile of laundry, this update is for you.

  • 50% Louder: The internal speaker has been redesigned to be significantly more powerful.
  • Hear it Twice as Far: Apple claims you can now hear the tracking chime from twice the distance compared to the original model.

⌚ A First for Apple Watch Users

“Owners of the Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, or newer models can now hunt down lost items right from their wrist, eliminating the need to pull out an iPhone.”

The “Direct and Punchy” Approach

Price and Availability

The best news? Apple isn’t raising the price.

  • Single AirTag: $29
  • 4-Pack: $99

Engraving: Still free if you order directly from Apple
